Ubuntu 13.04 - File transfer bottleneck

I am running 13.04 64 bit. When I transfer files from one local disk to another it seems to hang up for about 10 seconds to think about what its doing and then transfer the files at a snail pace. Has anyone experienced this or does anyone know the cause or fix?

I am using 13.04 32 bit and I am having problems transferring file over my home network, some time works fine but the next it just hangs, very frustrating

My situation has since resolved, though I will be keeping an eye out for anyone else with the same issue.
