View Full Version : GnomeTweak/GTK3 freezing computer on wakeup from suspend; cannot right click desktop!

So a few months ago, after browsing the forums and Linux websites for technical information, I downloaded GnomeTweak for Ubuntu 12.10. This tool is also known as Advanced System Settings, I believe. I also downloaded GNOME Color Chooser, as well as several GTK3 themes. I had these themes more or less working.

A week or two into my experience, everything failed. It was buggy to begin with and I don't have the expertise in Ubuntu that I do in *******. Every time I put my computer in Sleep, Hibernate or Suspend mode, it completely freezes on waking. This happens about 100% of the time. I'll open my screen back up and the only thing I can see is my desktop wallpaper. Everything is missing and/or greyed out, the "warning this program is not responsive" type of greyed out. I have no idea how to fix this issue. I got rid of GnomeTweak but I don't know how to erase all of the features I downloaded (maybe I should have been more careful with my root commands when installing GTK3?).

In addition to constantly freezing, the side bar/dash seems laggier than before; it often freezes temporarily while launching programs. Another issue? I can't right-click on the desktop anymore. No menu comes up. It just creates massive lag spikes and/or nearly crashes the desktop environment. The only way I know that my computer hasn't frozen again is if I open the Guake terminal in an attempt to xkill, which changes my cursor and seems to kickstart the computer back into action.

I have tailored alot of settings on this install of Ubuntu, such as VPNs, internet programs, etc, and it'd really be a shame to have to reinstall the entire OS. However I'll do almost anything to fix this problem so I can return to using Ubuntu 12.10 as my main OS (this is a dual-boot computer with Win7). Is there some log I can look at to see what happens when my computer freezes? Any and all help will be extremely appreciated.

Edit: I ran sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop and, after telling me I was up to date, told me to remove old packages. Here's the terminal log.

In order to test a theory I had, I installed the Cinnamon desktop interface. When I suspend/hibernate in Cinnamon, it runs near-flawlessly. As it awakes there is a second or two delay that displays some error message, but it returns to the desktop. However, I still cannot right-click.
