This is my first time really getting to know Linux. Im trying to setup my first duel-boot system because i'm still tied down to windows by Itunes, my iphone and photoshop(i practically live on my work in photoshop). I'm booting Ubuntu 12.10 on my HP G65 Notebook, which is pre installed with Windows 7 64 bit, from a live USB. The HP loads just fine and proceeds to try to boot Ubuntu but it freezes up on a black screen with 'syslinux 4.06 edd 2012-10-23 copyright (c) 1994-2012 H. petter Anvin et al' and a blinking bar under it at the top. I've also tried it on my HP desktop, which also has windows 7, and it skipped the USB and loaded windows instead despite the USB being first in the boot order

I'm tired of windows and I want something far more stable. And try to keep the talk on a noob understandable level.
