View Full Version : will QML work for desktop applications?

I am interested in making applications, and I'm familiar with JavaScript, so QML sounds like a good start. What I want to know is, will applications written in QML work in the Ubuntu desktop? Most of the information I'm getting on QML mentions Ubuntu touch, but I don'tn have a device running Ubuntu touch, so I'd prefer to run it on my laptop.
(That being said, is there an emulator for Ubuntu Touch? As I said, I'd prefer to run any apps I write on my laptop, but if one day I decide to write for phones, an emulator would be very handy :) )

Python tends to be the standard for desktop apps, but you can make QML based apps for both desktop and touch using Qt.
Here is everything you need to know about unity next and running it on your desktop:

Have fun :)

Thanks for the response and the link, but what does unity next have to do with QML apps?

Unity Next is what was called Ubuntu Touch and Ubuntu Phone. That shows how to build the operating system on your desktop so that you can emulate it, like you said.

Oh, that makes sense now, thanks for clearing that up for me! Does it only work for Unity Next, though?
