On this page: http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201202-10592/ it is not made clear if the version 12.10 made avaliable for vostro 2420 will install properly with all dell specific drivers. I would assume that setting "software sources" to "any new version" would allow me to start a upgrade to 12.10 from 11.10 on my personally owned vostro 2420. But that channel is not made available and support for 11.10 expires in early May. Am I to expect owning a limboed-vostro purchased month ago, or can I expect full Dell/Canonicol support for this laptop?

My question was placed on launchpad with no reply. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-certification/+question/225432
So I thought I might find an answer here. Perhaps the mother ship might answer?? I just realized there is a partition on my Vostro containing a whole bunch of Dell propriitory .debs for this vostro.

If this can be any help : 13.04 installs properly, but :

- segfault under certain iwconfig commands, kernel panic if issued again

- microphone does not work (I have not looked into this all that much, there might be a quick fix...)

- using the Dell repository for drivers does not help

- using the Drivers on the factory image CD does not help

The rest is fine.

Anyone has feedback on this ?

Totally agree, but I notice quite a performance gain with 13.04 compared to 12.04 so I'm going to give it a spin. Not that this laptop was intended at performance !

Namely, I use mixxx to d.j. and under 12.04, the sound wave animation brings the laptop to it's knees to a point where I cannot use my external sound card without having the music glitch, preempt kernel or not.

Under 13.04, no clicking thus far.
