A few months ago, I came across a program called AeroFS, which allows people to sync their files directly between computers without the need for storing on a server (decentralized syncing). They were a closed beta, but they are now open to the public, and it is free for 1-3 computers.
They currently have a version for Linux, Windows, and Mac.
So far, its worked quite well for a sync between my Windows computer, and Ubuntu.
