Hello everyone. I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop. Strangely, all my packages seem to be missing; when I go to the Ubuntu software centre, it gives me description for any programs other than those I have already installed, and won't let me download anything. Anyone have some fixes for this? Is it because I installed an older distro? Thanks in advance,

Timmy

Ubuntu 10.10 had 18 months support and it reached End Of Life about a year ago. The repositories of software for 10.10 are now closed because they are no longer maintained. All things come to their end.

You can change your sources.list to point to the old-releases repositories which will allow you to download from the 10.10 packages.

However, as 10.10 is end of life, you are better off getting something which current and supported, eg 12.04 which is supported for about another 4 years.
