If you are thinking of switching you should consider 13.04 (say, in late May) rather than 12.10.

It all depends on whether you will use the new features that come with 13.04. Wait a few weeks, download the ISO image, burn it to DVD and try it out. There will be a new LTS release in 14.04. Since 12.04 we get 5 years support on the desktop (just like the server edition) instead of 3 years.

I always go for the newest Ubuntu but if you are happy with what you have and you can do what you want to do, then you do not have to upgrade just because a newer version of Ubuntu is released.

Regards.

thanks for all the help.
i really like the idea of 5 years for the desktop.
for now i am enjoying the new 12.04.
at first it was alittle hard to get used with the task bar on the side. but i really like the look and feel.
