Manually installing drivers

I have download some programs using my Android phone and then connected via USB transfer programs onto the hard drive. But when ever I use the software center to install the program it won't install it. So how do I manually install a program that I placed on the hard drive in a folder? Also how can I get to a piticular folder using the command prompt? Thank you.

All you have to do is to open a terminal window and run the following command:

cd /path/to/folder
