I am using Ubuntu 12.04 desktop. last week I pressed the update all. after update and relogin, only mouse can move. Nothing more can function. After that desktop 12.04 has been downloaded and installed again. after updating the important security update, the system crashed again. Can anyone help??!!

my best guess is a bad spot on the hard drive if it will run long enough you can test it but not all hard drive's will show errors
there might be other better ideas but with out a hands on that would be my guess. I keep a spare hard drive around just to test and confirm
disk utility may show some errors and I would test it and if any error are found then replace the drive
