Hi friends,

Is there any way to install ubuntu from scratch. Like install kernel first with minimal amount of applications, then the desktop environment we want. I found tutorials for installing Linux from scratch, but those are pretty deep. A little less daunting will be helpful. Although if I didn't find an easy one, I'll try to install Linux From Scratch in virtual box, but I'll prefer Ubuntu from Scratch, rather Linux from scratch (as LFS might become too scratchy :()

This provides just the Ubuntu Core and nothing else like you asked. :) Please be aware this requires a wired network connection to work.

Ahaa... thanks :)

Meanwhile I was reading this (http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/stable/index.html) guide. Heading says Linux from scratch but somewhere I read that

The LFS system will be built by using an already installed Linux distribution (such as Debian, Mandriva, Red Hat, or SUSE)

I was planning to install the debian one and then moving ahead, can you please take a look at the introduction of the tutorial and suggest that minimal ubuntu install is better or LFS debian install. I have wired network connection.

Oh... crap, after posting this post I understood the line completely :( it says that LFS will be built by using existing debian or some distro. Hmm... anyway I'll try to stick to the guide first, if I got stuck for long, then I'll surely try core minimal ubuntu.

Well building from LFS is pretty time consuming, but looks like I am going to learn many new things.
