Hey everyone,

First time poster here.

Recently decided I wanted to trek into linux territory, and Ubuntu looked like the best place to do so. After installing the OS through the windows executable set up, everything looked as if it was going to go fine. Ubuntu loaded up, installation was finalizing, icons in the top right were appearing, but suddenly everything went away and the text said "graphics lock up. failed to idle 1" and it spews out TONS of random bits of information.

Specs:

Intel i7 990x
ASUS Sabertooth X58
Nvidia GTX 580
(anything else needed let me know, I run ethernet)

For additional information, my PC has issues installing other OS's too, it's not just this one. The windows 8 upgrade doesn't work, it gets to a similar location (about to boot, doing final installation) then it stops as well. So, this may kill two birds with one stone! I assume you all savvy, so please, lay it on me!

About standard installation:

Sometimes with some hardware, you need to tweak a bit:

and of course, if you get issues, always think to watch the logs to know about the possible errors/warnings

These links didn't really help me :\ Any other suggestions? Should I reformat my PC?
