Gmail alternative

Been looking for an alternative to Gmail, so far I have found Zoho mail and it seems pretty decent.

Any other good (free) alternatives to Gmail?

I am a pretty big fan of "Shortmail"

It is very clean and simple, with no ******** emailing. I would recommend it to anyone.

There are actually packages in the repos that make Zoho integrate into Ubuntu really neatly. Install desktop-webmail (apt:desktop-webmail) to open any mailto links in Zoho mail, and webservice-office-zoho (apt:webservice-office-zoho) to open any document files in Zoho office.

I just use ymail (yahoo), works well for anything I need it for. Other then that Gmail is still probably the best.

I started with Yahoo mail 16 years ago and am still using it, I also have a gmail account, and the email account provided by my ISP.
I consolidated all three accounts using gmail's import function, then installed Thunderbird to replace Outlook and access all three accounts at once using IMAP.
Since Google also provides for calendar I adopted Goggle Calendar also; oh yea I forgot to mention that all this stay sychronized with my iPhone automatically!:)

I'm actually a really big fan of Outlook. It's really clean on the Desktop, and really neat looking.

mail.com is also pretty good. You even get the choose what comes after the @ symbol. It's one of my favourites by far.

There's also an option that allows you to add a secondary email address so that emails that can't be sent to the primary email, it gets forwarded to the secondary.

To answer the same question posted multiple times in one swipe; I think there is a misunderstanding, I never said there was anything wrong with Gmail, it is my primary email option and always will be.

I am just experimenting with alternatives to see what is out there.

Thus far I found hushmail.com and zoho.com to be the two best alternatives; although I don't think I will ever be able to remember to email via hushmail once every 3 weeks so I am sure this account will fall into closure for non-use.

Zoho.com email is by far the best alternative of the two, it is smooth, clean with great security...it is what Gmail used to be (or could have been).

Ultimately I will continue to use Gmail as I have for many years on many accounts.

Unfortunately, bigstring appears dead, it seemed like it had some awesome features.

mips gmx looked outstanding until I disabled Adblock Plus to find it bloated with ads. It is unfortunate because it looked very promising.

I should get around to trying iCloud on my iMac.

Thus far these 2 Gmail alternatives are very nice and I highly recommend:

1. lavabit
2. zoho

(hushmail is nice but I am not sure I will be able to meet their 3 week required usage to keep the account active)

He may just want a different email. I know some people have moved away from gmail due some article's posted about the "invasion of privacy" that google does but the one thing you have to be careful off when reading some of these articles is that M$ has people on staff that there job is to post wrong information about the competition. My wife works for Samsung as a tier one tech rep and part of her training is over privacy policy so when people call in they can explain them and she has told me google does have the rights but they in no way shape or form actually do those things,

What things? Google does customize ads based on keywords in emails, they keep records of google users' searches and website visits. They claim the right to track users' geographical location via their cell phones, if they've been given the cell phone numbers. They admit they do this, so what's that got to do with misinformation?

I am a big fan of secure email, but Hushmail is no friend. The former CEO of Hushmail on twitter showed me where Hushmail used every trick in the book to help the authorities get access to the super secret key and read some drug trafficker's email. so be warned.

LOL By all means. Actually I wouldn't have thought Outlook would work for a Linux system. Still, it's good to know about the alternatives.

I was just revisiting this thread and while checking some of the suggestions out, discovered that Lavabit (https://lavabit.com/) has suspended operations.

Looking at the date that post was before the news that MicroSoft has NSA backdoors built into all its services. :)

I only use hotmail for online forums (such as this one) and random sites that require email account and I have a whole bunch of them sitting around collecting spams.
