View Full Version : [ubuntu] Ubunt12.04: USB drives constantly get disconnected.

USB support seems always weak on Ubuntu. With 12.04, mounting seems to work better but I found nautilus and other window managers (e.g., thunar) constantly disconnect my USB drives and there would be no way to remount them using system commands. I had to physically disconnect and reconnect the drive. This happens most often when I use the drive for torrenting while copying or moving files.

I wonder if there are general advice or ideas on this issue.

I have never had this on any machine...
Sounds more like flaky hardware

But this doesn't happen when using the same drive on Windows or Mac OS X. I just had the worst case on Ubuntu 12: I stopped all IOs on that drive and tries to enter a folder that has 100GB movies. The connection was dropped right away. This never happens on my other Windows or Mac machines.
