Hello, world. I'm hoping to ease into open-source by installing Ubuntu 12.04.2 alongside OSX 10.6.8 on my Macbook 2,1 (core 2 duo). I've scoured the interwebs for tips; accordingly, I've installed rEFIt successfully, and partitioned my hard drive (the latter was done with the default "OSX journaled" setting). The Ubuntu installation CD fires up, and I can get as far as the installation pane. But then there are just two options: "replace OSX with Ubuntu," or "something else." As a beginner, the warren of slashes and tildas and inexplicable lower-case acronyms in the "something else" window scares the wikileaks out of me. The system's all backed up, of course, but I still don't want to blow it to smithereens. Anyway, I must have missed something, right? This is supposed to be easy. How can I get the "install alongside OSX" option to appear?

Thanks for your timely wisdom.
