I installed Ubuntu Linux on to my laptop purely as a second, "backup" operating system should Windows on the other partition ever fail. Now I'm using Linux 99% of the time!

On the Windows partition I have Lojack for Laptops installed. Beyond hoping that any thief will choose to boot into Windows rather than Linux, has anyone found a decent laptop-tracking program for Ubuntu ?

In hope... :)

It wouldn't be that hard to write one. About all you need is an external server to report to. Does your laptop have a built-in GPS?

Built-in GPS ? No, Lars ! (And I'm a purchaser of software, not a writer ;-)
Thanks for the idea, though !

A script would do, no need for heavy programming. However, without a GPS you're only going to be able to guess at a location based on ISP, probably no more accurate than the nearest city. You could have a back door though that allows you to log in and use the camera and microphone, if you want that sort of thing.
