im having some issues installing ubuntu 12.10 onto my other computer. i have a 32bit version, the bios is set up properly(boot from disc drive). currently the computer is running on windows xp(im a sinner :P) but when i reboot to install it, it boots up windows xp like normal. ive installed ubuntu on a few computers and never come accross this issue. any idea whats up?

the computer that im trying to install it on is a bit outdated, i cant boot from usb. only cd/floppy/harddrive

Have you tried telling it to boot directly the CD by using a Boot menu while booting? Generally it can be found either inside the Bios menu (In the Exit section) or by pressing one of the F keys.
Also, while your PC might be saying it can't boot from a USB, it actually could using Plop (http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanagers.html). You can also use it to boot your CD if you fail booting using the Boot Menu.

Hello jeffmcormick,

I'm not exactly sure what your saying. Are you saying that you can't boot the cd drive or that after install 12.10 it boots to xp?
