Is your BIOS UEFI, with secure boot enabled?

Video may be the issue. We do need to know video card or chip. Most will work with nomodeset.

How to set NOMODESET and other kernel boot options in grub2 - both liveCD & first boot, but different

The new i-series Intel chip based motherboards usually have an UEFI/BIOS configuration. Older duo Core usually are just BIOS.

i had help fixing the usb i went to a friend showed him my system he said i did install but still was getting boot error .

So we formated the usb started over making sure the boot loader was present , i now have a ubuntu 12.10 fresh install :D

Some how the ubuntu usb i bought from ubuntu.com was not complete it would install on my windows 7 but not boot

Now all i ned to do is figure out how to shut down my system i suspect i have a server install for it wont turn off . i was
told severs dont turn off , i can shut down but my system wont shut down :?:
