I've been reading on how Google is working on CoreBoot so that it can use it in ChromeBook laptops.

I would absolutely love to be able to buy a Laptop and install CoreBoot in place of the garbage BIOS/UEFI that seems to come with every Windows computer out there.

Now that Google is putting resources into CoreBoot, what is the liklihood that Ubuntu users will be able to use CoreBoot on their machines in the near future? Will CoreBoot present better quality (a fix for the poor quality BIOSes that are so prevalent on Windows computers)?

I think that one of the real problems with core boot is that it has to be recoded and recompiled for every chip-set. I think google's support may help give it a nudge forward, but I suspect that UEFI is where the foreseeable futures lies.
