Hi Friends,

I would like to upgrade my Ubuntu 10.04.4 (32-bit) to 64 bit. It is a production server so I need to know whether any issue will come if I upgraded it to 12.04 (64 bit) or do I need to upgrade to the same version 10.04.4(64 bit). Also please let us know the best practice to upgrade from 32 bit Ubuntu OS to 64 bit. Thanks in advance.

To move from a 32 bit system to 64 bit
You need to do a new installation

Hi,

@harimodel007 : While checking I didn't find any information to upgrade to 64 bit from 32 bit. Installation is everyone suggests. If you have sufficient information to upgrade directly, let me know.

@carl4926 : Yeah that's what me too found. But how can it be done in an effective way in a production server.

Thanks,

Hi,

Thanks,

Only by backup and reinstatement

Or

You build a new server and bring it up to speed for a switch over.

I guess you could image your current machine, set it up on some old hardware or VM
Rebuild the current hardware and so on...
