View Full Version : unusable display

February 27th, 2013, 12:39 AM
Did a fresh install from live dvd of 12.04.2 on an old pc with a leadtek 6800GT. After the initial reboot, i was notified that proprietary nvidia drivers were available. I installed the recommended one (sorry, don't remember what version it was) and rebooted. My display is now a grey background with garbled text.

I'm at a loss as to how to proceed. I can't even see what I'm typing lol. Tried to kill X with ctrl-alt-backspace and "sudo stop lightdm" but nothing changes. Even the terminal is messed up: gray background with garbled text. Can it be fixed with a live cd or do i have to reinstall?

I can type type commands: "sudo reboot" reboots right away but I cant make out any text or see what I'm typing.

Any recommendations appreciated.
