Hi,

I am a keen on changing the appearance of my devices to make them look different from the original. I have already changed my entire windows system to look like an Alienware, with a custom boot animation, custom logon screen and a dark ominous looking skin. Also a Alienware theme for Chrome.

So I was wondering if there is any way to make my Ubuntu boot look like a CTU (Counter Terriost Unit) desktop. I would be grateful for any help or advice you can give me.

Thanks in Advance

Paint it camouflage, and use a wallpaper of Chloe O'Brian

Edit: oh and you know CTU are fictional right ? a Government computer looks the same as anyone elses, usually a BSOD ;-)

Government computers are usually pretty plain. I guess you could go for the Windows9x/2000 look:

Here (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Mist-Redmond?content=155580) and here (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Murrina+Redmond?content=95262). Extract to ~/.themes/ then use Ubuntu Tweak to apply.

You'll also want some ugly icons. Reaaaaally pixelated. Good luck.

Spain uses GNU LinEx in some regions for schools and institutions which looks like plain old Gnome. There is nothing ominous about it.

According to a label that was still on the bottom of the keyboard, my first x86 machine was actually one previously owned by a government department. It's outwards appearence was pretty much the same as most desktops of the day, as was the MS-DOS prompt when powered up.

Shockingly, governments don't like big, clunky, unusable desktop environments distracting people from the actual applications they're using.

Just to further enhance that point, this (http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=lps) distro is allegedly used by the US government.

EDIT: Not allegedly; is. The home page of the project is a .mil TLD, which only certain entities can get - http://www.spi.dod.mil/lipose.htm

A real government Ubuntu machine has an annoying message at login that read something along the lines "This machine is property of the US government and it is for official authorized use only. If you are not authorized, logout immediately." There is also something about having no expectation of privacy, I never bothered to remember the exact message. The rest is plain Ubuntu. This should be pretty easy to do for anyone.

A Hollywood government computer depends on the budget and creativity of the director/special effects crew. Technically, anything that you do and you consider "cool" should do the trick.
