Hi,

I have ubuntu 10.10 on my pc. It was originally 10.04 but I upgraded to 10.10. I haven't upgraded since.

In update manager, when i click to check for updates I get the error shown in 1check.png

Can anyone kindly help me.

Thanks

You might do better to do a complete install of 12.04 rather than upgrade. I may be mistaken, but I believe unless you are presently at a LTS such as 10.04 you have to upgrade stepwise through each version of Ubuntu (11.04, 11.10, 12.04) and this may lead to an unstable system
Before either upgrades or install do a back up of important files(email folders,Firefox settings, data files etc)

This is correct. I would recommend an install of 12.04, backup and save everything you don't want to lose first, preferably to an external device.:)

+1. No 100% guarantees exist that all will go well.

being that you've been running pre-unity versions of Ubuntu, I'd suggest several things to do before a re-install :
1) Take a quick peak at the new desktop layout:
http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/take-the-tour

2)If the old gnome layout is something you prefer, there is a classic gnome option:
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-install-classic-gnome-desktop-in-ubuntu-12-04-precise.html

3)If neither of those are helpful you can try the other flavors like:

xubuntu (http://xubuntu.org/)

lubuntu (http://lubuntu.net/)

kubuntu (http://www.kubuntu.org/)

As with the posts above, backup anything you wish to keep, as running a fresh install is really the best option, as it is untelling what will happen if you try updating from 10.10 to 11.04 to 11.10 to 12.04.(Aside from 10.10, at least one other release is dead ;11.04)

Thank you all for the answers. I guess I'll just do a clean installation. I tried doing a stepwise upgrade but as someone pointed out 11.04 is dead so I guess that's why I'm having issues.

Thanks again.
