Hi, I've just tried loading ubuntu 12.04 onto my Dell laptop in which I've got a second hard drive (formatted) in the media bay. Is there any way that I can load ubuntu onto this drive rather than the drive that has the Windows XP Pro running on it. There doesn't seem to be the option for this on the install menu. I'm not particularly bright with computers so simple answers please :-) Thanks for any replies.

it should not be a problem.

when you do the install you'll come to a section on Partitioning the hard drive, select do something else , see attachments.

partition that second drive with at least 2 gigs of swap space and 10 gigs for a root / partition. I like to partition the rest of the disk for a separate /home partition also.

use ext4.

there are any number of install guides on the web. which you may find helpful to read.
