Dear Ubuntu community,

I'd like to get a digital voice recorder for recording spoken word (not music). What do you all recommend?

As it's just spoken word, the audio quality doesn't have to be super top-notch. As long as I can hear the words, I'm happy.

If it comes with a extenal memory slot, I wish it to be a SanDisk card slot, and not Sony's rectangular Memory Stick.

It doesn't have to be stereo. Mono is fine.

It would be great if it could pause recording when there's silence, and resume recording when the device hears talking again. But if the device doesn't have it, that's okay: I can just snip out the silent parts using Audacity.

Audio format doesn't matter. Again, just as long as I can hear the words on the digital files, I'm happy.
