I wanted to try Ubuntu so I asked a mate and he said it was available as a free download, so.......
I downloaded Ubunto 12:10 as an iso file, wrote it to dvd and installed in on my desktop machine and after installing I was faced with a dark orange and black screen with no menu, nothing clickable. I can access a command line window by pressing CTRL+ALT+F6 but as I am not online I can't do much with it. I tried to install onto my Acer Laptop with the same result.
I thought it was a duff download so I paid for a dvd from the Canonical store, installed onto my laptop -- I did a delete and install -- and got the same result, just a dark orange and black screen, no menu buttons, nothing clickable, same access of the window to type in commands (of which I know none).
I would appreciate any helpful advice please.
