Hello there,

I am facing an error during installation of current version of ubuntu ( 12.04 LTS and 12.10) on 64 Bit SONY Vaio SR46SD system.

I have downloaded and tried both version of ubuntu but I get an error
"Installation Failed
The installer encountered an error copying file to the hard disk
[Erro5]Input/out error :'/target/usr/share/gnome-control-centre/icons/hicolor

This is often due to faulty disk. it may help to check whether the hard disk is old & in need of replacement Or to move the system to a cooler environment.
"

Then I click OK and The Installer Crashed

So now from IT expert I make it sure that still hard disk is in good condition and there is no damage or fault in it. and after that I have installed Windows 7 and it works fine without any error.

I like to use Ubuntu more than any other OS so I would be very grateful if somebody can help me to fix this issue.

Thank you

Uday

how did you partition your Hard disk before installing Ubuntu?
What kind of Partition Table does your HDD have?
How did you create your Install media? Did you check the integrity of your downloaded .iso using md5sum check?

Please provide the above info...
