Not sure if this is the correct post but anyways I have a Quad core 3.4 with 8 gig of ram and large hard drive and a Nvidia GT-610 video card and went to install 12.10 64 bit and a awful time with it like freezing and not booting up if goes to the desktop but on desktop no icons but thought I would try the 32 bit 12.10 and what a difference my video card install nice and drivers even my card reader everything works good so far I'll keep posted but wondering if the 32 is the way to go with the 12.10.

Anyways guys keep up the great work maybe next version the 64 bit will be there unlwess I'm doing something wrong and could be I'm not sure perfect but my mp280 printer now prints and scan love Ubuntu and hope to be there because I saws Windows 8 and hated it from first timw I saw it.

It sounds like with the 64 bit version, you did not have the nVidia driver installed or installed correctly.

With 12.10 64 bit I did have to install headers before the nVidia drivers to get them to install correctly. Does the 32bit then include the headers?

While the 32bit version will use PAE to partitally use your 8GB of RAM it is not optimal.

Assuming your hardware is x86_64 capable (basically any modern Intel/AMD CPU) and have at least 2GB of RAM, you really should be running the 64-bit version.
Essentially says if you can use the 64bit kernel you should.April 2011

Linus does not like PAE or 32 bit.

I might just to experiment allocate another 10 to 20GB and install the 64bit into that so you can test again while keeping the working 32 bit version.

No, it just is that 32bit cannot directly address the entire 8GB, it moves it in & out of active somehow.

Hey guys I tried the 12.10 64 on my system I running a dual core 3.4, 8 gig's of ram and 1 tp hard drive so there's lots there to go around and I'm having the same troubles again only with the 64 bit ver. that it seems to freeze or doesn't boot up to full desktop I even found where to install my Nvidia GT-610 video card and I'm dual booting Windows 7 for only a few games I play but the was on Ubuntu I love Ubuntu but the 12.10 32 bit is the one that seems too work for now so for that being said I should be good for doing my home banking and finances I don't download unless its from Ubuntu software center, just reading forums ubuntu, windows, computers etc.
Thats why I choose Ubuntu because I heard such good report on security over Windows and even Mac. It's too bad to cause I like the 3.8 kernel.

But anyways guys keep up the great work I like the unity sometimes you have to go out there to try new things look at Windows 8 I saw and tried it and hated so you got my vote guys
