Is there any way I can upgrade my 10.04 Destop installation to 12.04 directly with gnome-session-fallback ? Its my computer at work and dont want unity at all. New install to X(L)ubuntu is not option Thanks

You would need to install it after the upgrade is complete, then switch that that DE before you login.

Unity is a integrade part of 12.04, ...unlike the fallback session, so, I'd say no.

And what's wrong with upgrading by default which will install unity, and then adding gnome-panel or what ever is the package called, that gives you gnome like desktop? You can load gnome classic at login, you never need to load unity if you don't want to.

Speaking of it, you can install other desktop environments too.

I'm not sure you can stop unity from installing during the upgrade, not easily anyway. It might be doable like most things in linux, but it depends how complicated it is.
