While it may extend to upgrades would likely only be seen on a new install as of today's (sat) image

There should be a couple of ways to enable more Ws's other than ccsm down the road, currently can be done in Appearances panel > Behavior > Enable Workspaces which will give a 2x2 setup.

Other setups can be done in ccsm, setting 4x1 should now work.

If using anything other than 2x2 or 1x1 (Workspaces disabled), then re-opening the Appearances panel will auto-reset back to 2x2 - bug or 'not our problem' don't know

With CarioDock and Kwin the multiple windows will show in an array.

That's because it's not caused by unity, it's unity settings panel (gnome-control-panel-unity) source that possibly is at fault
(it's either a bug or the handwritings on the wall..

The 'cube' is completely gone now.!

Obviously nobody felt strongly enough about it to step up to the plate and take over maintaining the plugin.

rotate (& cube ) is still available, you'd just need to install compiz-plugins & enable.
Ex. current i386 list
http://packages.ubuntu.com/raring/compiz-plugins/filelist

I just use for rotate, the cube itself has suffered a bit from a visual perspective but not as a means to switch Ws's.
(I believe some recent work was done on 'cubeaddons' plugin though no interest here in such.

They felt strongly enough about it with Kubuntu.

Yesterdays updates rendered one of my desktop installs with ATi graphics completely inoperable. Clicking on the panel dash icon and the dash comes up , but then freezes.

Goodbye to 'punchy & sexy'. Say hello to the mundane and banal.

Back to square one here.

Edit:

Actually I apologize for my remarks. I have been so busy. I had posted that I was going to look into taking up some of the vertex algorithms needed for compiz plug-ins etc.. and .. the more I try to make time for Ubuntu .. the busier it gets around here (and of course for the ubuntu devs likewise).

I would just then express my trepidations that , as compiz plugins and effects are being slowly obsoleted and dissed, then likewise Unity would be the only logical next to get stropped on the chopping block.

Actually .. yes .. It works just fine on this other PC I have. The previously mentioned install was tested on a daily install from 2 days ago. Perhaps I will yet zsync again and see where it's at.
