From GR and use 12.04 on a daily basis for work running any MS programs in VM's etc.

Looks like our community is a bit dead?

Maybe we could have more meetups and real life events rather than just IRC chat. :)

The Ubuntu Michigan LoCo is mostly in Detroit and meets about four times a year. The IRC channel is where most of the day-to-day communication happens.

However Grand Rapids has a large open source community. The Grand Rapids Linux Users Group (http://www.grlug.org/) meets every Wednesday from 8PM-10PM, usually at The Warehouse in Jenison (a member's very large, heated garage). These meetings are typically social events in coordination with the GRMakers group. The West Michigan Linux Users Group (http://wmlug.org/) meets on the last Thursday of each month at New Horizons Learning Center in Cascade. These meetings have formal presentations on Linuxy topics.

There are also groups for every other conceivable technical or programming topic. I maintain a list of them at http://conga-wm.org/group-list/
