I'll soon replace my current machine (Kubuntu Lucid) by something else and I'll upgrade the OS (Quantzal or Raring, depending on machine delivery date). I have the choice between an pre-cooked Ubuntu+work specific stuff on which I add KDE or a Kubuntu on which I add the work-specific stuff (which is what I did for the current system). How hard/painful is it to add KDE to a standard Ubuntu?

This is how hard it is

sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

;)

If you intall KDE on top of regular Ubuntu you will have Ubuntu's software selection + KDE's software selection, so you will have two Window Managers, two File managers, two text editors and so on and so on.

If you install kubuntu-desktop on top of regular Ubuntu you will have even more duplicates (kubuntu-desktop includes KDE plus more).

I'd go for Kubuntu + Your stuff.

Thx. There is also some configuration but I think I have it cornered.
