Did anyone heard about this virus . It's pretty "popular" now.. A lot of my friends had it, and I got to say it's not easy as it looks like to get rid off ... Just wanted to know your thoughts about it and if you knwo something about the subject..

Never heard of the virus before and I am thankful I have not gotten it! I'm going to have to make sure Norton takes extra care of my PC by boosting it security settings. I would hate encountering this. I'm terrible at removing viruses, so I would probably have no other option but to reinstall.

IMHO that's not a virus but rather a type of malware called ransomware, which basically restricts access to the computer system that it infects, and demands a ransom paid to the creator of the malware in order for the restriction to be removed. Some forms of ransomware encrypt files on the system's hard drive, while some may simply lock the system and display messages intended to coax the user into paying.

Agreed; Some more info along that line.

Pretty much. If you are smart with what you click on and don't download a bunch of crap, you should be "OK".

Not sure, but it looks like it is probably Windows only.

Seeing as this has nothing to do with Ubuntu security, and is just another of the many ransomware malware out there, thread closed.
