I have decided to install the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS version for its extended support and stability on my netbook. My question is, which of these technologies will make it snappier and consume less RAM? I've searched across the web, but only find useless posts of llvmpipe being the new replacement of Unity 2D in 12.10 and an outdated post bashing Ubuntu and praising Fedora for their fallback environments.

llvmpipe is probably going to tax the CPU by using it to accelerate graphics, so Unity2D is a safer bet. Also, don't forget Lubuntu and Xubuntu as lightweight options (xfce is my choice environment, even though my desktop has more than enough power to run heavier desktops)
