Just wanted to share an idea I posted to ideastorm to get some more input. I made a simple mock up, I think it could look better - but I would LOVE this functionality!
A long click on the maximize button would produce other resize options that allow you to quickly and efficiently organize your desktop.

So effortful! Where do you get such this idea? Why don't you apply as Ubuntu UI Designer? And, how to create proposal image like those? I want to know how...
I agree with this idea.

Idea for Unity - Better Resize
That is a seriously good idea, you know?
What do you mean by long click? Press and hold button for a long time and then release for the options to appear?

Great idea, however there is already such option in unity. If you press ctrl+alt+num the window will be placed in corresponding position.

Am I the only person that doesn't like this? The box is too small...

Welcome to Awesome WM. It's nearly the same idea. Windows have certain designated areas on the desktop to make the most efficient use of space. Compiz can be configured to have nearly the same functionality as you are looking for, only you would drag your windows instead of clicking.

There's something like this that I use on OS X, it's an app called Moom. It's pretty useful I'd love to see something like it on Ubuntu.
