Proof of that comes from the screenshot you see above. It’s the Steam website, and placed prominently near the top of the page is a “Join the Beta” promotion suggesting you try Steam for Linux. There’s even a download link to get Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, which removes yet another barrier to entry.

That's pretty awesome. I guess with the Steambox coming, they're all in now.

Yeah I noticed this a few days ago as well and I was really happy about it.

I mean, I'm not that surprised, especially considering the initial statements that Gabe Newell did re: Windows 8 and then how their whole Linux approach has been.

Though of course, I am super excited about this. Valve has a huge ring of influence and I'm sure if they continue to actively promote Linux we might see even more of an influx of developers moving towards Linux. Hopefully this will lead to more big titles getting Linux releases and also perhaps more of those indie-games that are fun titles to pop up on it too like Orcs Must Die etc :p

Lol, I never thought my screenshot (http://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/16x5y8/when_downloading_steam_on_fresh_install_of/) would spread this far. I was quite surprised when I ran into this though, it was pretty cool.

Excellent!

Valve Corporation, a video game maker based in Bellevue Washington, has rejected Windows 8 and is now promoting Ubuntu Linux.
