I am turning an old Alienware Aurora (Desktop) into a file server with Ubuntu 12.04 server. After I installed the OS and the computer restarted, I was taken to a black screen asking for a username and password.
I have read a couple other forums (here and else where) that said that it is a video card compatibility issue. It is a built in video card that I am trying to use. I have tried added the "command" nomodest after splash quite, in replace of splash quite as well.
I was able to get the Ubuntu purple screen if I go to the recovery mode but I am not sure why I see a GUI type interface there and not in the regular boot up.
If I need to install a driver, how do I do that via the command line or through the recovery mode.
