I had a quad boot of OS, all linux, I deleted 3 of them and inadvertently deleted
my boot partition. I did get running again using Boot repair {thanks YannBuntu}

My question though is when the grub rescue prompt came up, i couldn't find any
keyboard combination to do anything with it and i am sure that somehow grub
can be restored at that point, What am i missing? TIA.

Here's a good read: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1594052

Don't think you can install grub from the rescue prompt but once booted into your install, grub is easily reinstalled. else can be done from a live cd/usb/etc.
