I was just able to install ubuntu dream studio 12.04 alongside windows 8 on my Asus u47a. The install went fine, but even though I am connected to my network, the internet will not work. I even plugged in a wired connection, and the connection works fine, but I can not update, or use the internet. We don't use a proxy to connect and the network is working fine...I'm logged into windows to write this out. It's so weird because the computer goes through the connection process, establishes a connection wirelessly and wired .... but the internet will not work.
