It's easier to help if you tell us what you are using than what you are not using. Or did you mean that you're using unity?

I believe Nepomuk is installed as a dependency for certain Qt packages. I've had it turn up on previous installations, can't remember what brings it in though.

it is normally more prevalent when using KDE but I believe Unity requires it though I am not sure.
Either way it doesnt matter what DE you have, nepomuk remains the same.
