getting following errors

Are you trying to do this in the recovery console? if so you don't need sudo, but you probably do need to remount the filesystem with read-write permissions:-


mount -o remount,rw /Note that there is no space between the remount,rw options

Another possible reason is if you have a GUI package manager running (Synaptic / Software Center)
