Kind of an odd question but let me explain, I just bought a computer for my parents and put xubuntu on it. To ease the transition does anyone know any good themes that look like win xp? And how to install them. I've been using xfce for years but tbh I've never had a need to change the theme save for the general tweaks

IMO Mint's Cinnamon looks a fair bit like XP. I don't know if it can be installed on Xubuntu. There are ppas available but I have no idea how of if they'll work with Xubuntu.

So does Xfce, if you customize it right.

If you want a theme identical to XP's Luna, then I found this (http://xfce-look.org/content/show.php/XP+2002?content=100380), which is a theme for Xfce. Simply extract it to ~/.themes , and switch to it.

Maybe your parents are smarter than you think and you should let them try it out.

This suggestion comes from a great grand daddy :)

Thanks guys and it's not that they aren't smart its that they resist change like no others it took me 4 years of constant pestering to get them to stop using ie. Which I accomplished by removing it and setting their user unable to install programs. Way I figure is if they have to use it they'll be more likely to enjoy it in an environment their used to, then I'll slowly change to a more Linuxy place

its not the same, but:

the latest greybird theme for xubuntu is brighter blue with pale context menu

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:shimmerproject/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install shimmer-themes-greybirdwindow decoration
preview http://xfce-look.org/CONTENT/content-pre1/72290-1.png
get from http://xfce-look.org/content/show.php/Visty?content=72290
be sure to unpack each theme before pasting into /usr/share/themes with
gksudo thunaras for icons, i am not sure, it depends how uptight they are about it, i suppose for ease i would suggest installing gnome full
sudo apt-get install gnome-icon-theme-full

here are some panel themes also
