I am getting a new workstation with Xenon E5 2650 and 64GB RAM. It is Fujitsu Celsius R 920. What is the best operating system for this? Can anyone help?

E5 is well supported by the actual linux kernels since a while.
Then you need to test the other hardware found into that new workstation.
Download the 12.10 (quantal) or 13.04 (raring) dev iso, install it on an usb stick, then boot on it without installing, to know about possible issue.

I suppose you will install the server iso:

I downloaded the sever version ubuntu-12.10-server-amd64 .... It is a 64 bit amd version.. I have intel processor.. so wondering, the server version will be compatible!!
