Hi all,

just got an old Dell latitude d505 handed down to me.
Seeing how it doesn't seem to boot into windows xp (which is installed at the moment), I was thinking of installing (l)ubuntu,
at the moment I'm trying lubuntu 12.04 as there is a problem with the kernel (pae/processor/etc).

anyways when I try to run lubuntu from the live usb stick, it gets stuck on the lubuntu splash screen.
Anyone any idea what this means (when I google it I just get "after installation" questions)

Thanks!
V

Edit: when pressing up during the splashscreen the last message is
*Stopping System V runlevel compatibility

Check if the usb stick is corrupted. I also had some problems and then found that it was a problem with the usb stick.

hmm I don't think so, just did a checkdisk on my stick and it came out ok...
also did a memory test but also nothing out of the ordinary

any other ideas?
