View Full Version : [all variants] Printer recommendation for 10.04

January 8th, 2013, 08:29 AM
My neighbor is running 10.04 on a laptop. He bought a wireless printer and I was not able to get it to work wirelessly (it worked with the driver via USB but not via wireless). Anyway, he returned that printer and is asking for a recommendation for a printer which will function with Ubu 10.04 wirelessly.

The more seamless the setup the better.

(I suppose the price should be around fifty bucks.)

A good place to start? http://www.openprinting.org/printers

Have a look at what printers are available in his price range and check for Linux support using openprinting.org

Also have a look at the Ubuntu wiki - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsPrinters and https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Printers

There's loads of previous posts in the forum on printer installations.

First you should try to get him to do a fresh install of 12.10. It will save trouble later.

New hardware and an old operative system is not a good combination.

That link for the printer site will be useful. Thank you for that.

What I was rather hoping for was a testimonial like "I bought X printer from HP and followed the instructions in this link and worked flawlessly".

Is CUSP still that complicated?
