I've been running Kubuntu for a few years but lately I've been having issue's so I decided to switch to Ubuntu which I did this morning.

I installed Ubuntu on my main drive (SSD!) and set up my graphics card (ATI HD5970) using AMD CCC. Than I rebooted for all changes to be made correctly.

The system seems to work fine but as soon as I try to open Dash or minimize a window it responds terribly slow even though my CPU or memory aren't having a lot of trouble with it. Dash is definitely the worst. Anything I type appears on screen more than 5 seconds later and icons seem to load forever..

My system is as following:
Intel quad core i7 @ 3,08 Ghz
12 GB RAM
ATI HD5970
SAMSUNG 256 GB SSD (cant recall the actual model)

Does anyone know what this could be and or how to fix this?
