Don't know, but if you find out, you might want to add an option for "customized with some other desktop environment", since a lot of people like using environments that don't have their own distro, and desktop environment is the only distinguishing difference between these flavors.

Ubuntu default. Xubuntu for my old 2004 tablet PC with only 512 RAM. It's acting as a server now.

If you want the poll edited ask forum staff. We can add Kubuntu and Other if you wish.

If you PM me I will do it; however, it make take 24 hours before I see the PM. If you click on 'Report abuse' explaining what you want fixed, an online staff member may help you sooner, as I may be offline sleeping or at work.

Ubuntu 10.04
&
Xubuntu 12.04

I like and use 'em both. I would stay with Ubuntu 10.04 if I could, but then I wouldn't get to enjoy Xubuntu 12.04, as much as I do.

I voted Xubuntu. Gnome2 is dying, and that leaves me Xubuntu. I do like it a lot!

I selected other because I really love this:

http://www.webupd8.org/2012/10/prefer-gnome-shell-download-ubuntu.html

The packages are in the repos so it's sort of semi-official :) I just hadn't tried gnome-shell until recently but I'm finding it to be quite intuitive and fast.

OTOH Ubuntu itself was fine for me on 12.04, and I'm also impressed with Lubuntu. I'd hate to be limited to just one flavor.

Which is a big reason why I run Ubuntu and not the other "flavors." I always add at least one other DE or WM to Ubuntu. Some years back, I used to run Kubuntu, but then I just started adding KDE to Ubuntu. With Ubuntu 10.04, I added Openbox, and with 12.04, I added GNOME Shell. But I also keep the default (old GNOME in the past, Unity now).

While I'm actually finding myself liking Unity, Xubuntu is by far my favorite flavor. The XFCE desktop feels like a virtual skinning sandbox, I can make my desktop look almost however I want it to! =P Might give the KDE desktop another try pretty soon as well.

If my computer wasn't such an old beast I'd love to try Ubuntu and see what all the Unity fuss is about.

But she runs Xubuntu 12.04 with no trouble. It's infinitely customizable, elegant, pretty, and a model of simplicity.

I'm currently using Xubuntu Precise. Might make a switch to Ubuntu or to Debian when Wheezy goes stable. Will see in the future.

I really love the simple, but really pretty look of Xubuntu. The guys from the Shimmer project really did a terrific job.

Use Lubuntu on old hardware and weak machines like netbooks. I have been trying Kubuntu and find it very polished, but the flow is just not nearly as smooth as Unity or gnome shell (once I get used to the new DEs the menus seems so inefficient and also I like the keyboard shortcuts) and I use a lot gnome applications. So on my main machines I prefer Ubuntu with Unity, but I am keeping a Kubuntu partition to play with.

Depends what my purpose is.

My favorite to install for friends switching from Windows is LinuxMint w/Cinnamon.
My favorite for installing on computers of people that have never touched a computer before, Ubuntu 12.04 default with Unity

for me... I bounce a bit. Between Ubuntu w/Unity, Lubuntu, or Ubuntu w/OpenBox

I have ADHD so when a new version of something comes out I'm all like "ooh shiny" and try it for a bit and if I like it, it is my "favorite" for a little bit. :D

Kubuntu first, followed closely by Xubuntu. Unity is a distant third: my wife is using it at 12.04 now, but she's soon going to be replacing it with Kubuntu 12.10.

We installed Xubuntu 12.10 on her Dad's computer, which is a lot simpler and easier to use than Windows 7.

Unity has a lot of potential, but it still seems pretty fragile under hard use. KDE takes everything I can throw at it, and Xfce is simply elegant in its simplicity.

On my Dell XPS 15 laptop, Ubuntu when plugged in on a/c, Lubuntu when on battery.

On Dell desktop, Xubuntu because my wife prefers that over other flavors.

I'm a huge Xubuntu fan. I just add AWN for additional eyecandy, and put GNOME Shell on there for when I feel like a change - up...

... And I have zero complaints!

Horses for courses, but to extend the life of an old xp desktop, it has to be Xubuntu. Its a much easier transition from xp to Xubuntu than either Ubuntu or any of the newer windows variants. Faster than either xp or Ubuntu & certainly prettier than xp, it came out top in the most important test of all, the wife liked it straight off.

I used to go with the regular Ubuntu. But my dislike of Unity lead me to go with Xubuntu this time around. Lubuntu looks interesting and I might try it out a little bit in a virtual machine. I would go with Kubuntu but new KDE is really gross to me.

Xubuntu it's simple and fast. Unity is too sluggish and bloated to me. For quick access to files I use the places plugin. For quick launching apps via keyboard I use synapse. Also workspaces etc become kind of useless when you add a second monitor.

I'm not currently using any Ubuntu flavor (LMDE with KDE), but I've been playing with GNOME 3 and am starting to like it, so I might give Ubuntu GNOME a whirl once 13.04 comes out. FYI, the GNOME developers are including an officially supported "Classic Mode" with GNOME 3.8, for those who like the GNOME 2 style.

I like Ubuntu but i am currently using Xubuntu and Arch. Under powered netbook that goes everywhere with me.

Xubuntu is currently rock solid (12.10) with kernel 3.9-rc4 and xswat ppa.

How did you install kernel 3.9-rc4? I installed it via deb files on Xubuntu 12.10 64-bit, but the cpu fan was loud and resuming from suspend showed a black screen with a gray square in the middle. The xswat ppa works though.

I know it's 100% subjective, but honestly I still like plain ol' Ubuntu.

Recently, though, I've started installing Cinnamon instead of Unity. I'm one of those rare folks who's still kind of on the fence about Unity. I don't hate it, but I sure don't love it either. Playing with Cinnamon on Ubuntu has given me some exposure to it without having to go to Mint, anyway. At least it's dead simple to install!
