Hi i'm installing Ubuntu 12.10 on my older dell pc to try it out it has a old nvidia fx5500 video card in it can anyone tell me if this driver works?

I'M thinking about giving this pc to my sister so i want it to work for her.

Hi!, Mia1990,

That is the correct driver for a FX5500 and ubuntu 12.10, though you may need to install 'gnome-session-fallback' from Ubuntu Software Center, and login to 'Gnome Classic [no-effects]'.

How it runs depends a lot on how much Ram it has, if it is only 512Mb it will probably need to be a slim version, Lubuntu or Xubuntu.

I have 512 mb on the card and 2gb of system ram. I was asking this because i know that when 12.04 came out the Nvidia driver wouldn't install or work right and didn't know if the problem had been worked out or not.
