View Full Version : [all variants] Auto-move most used files to CF

The Seagate Momentus XT (http://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-drives/laptop-hard-drives/momentus-xt-hybrid/) is a harddisk with an internal flash-memory to speed up the boot-process. The HDD automatically detects most used files and moves them into the 4GB SSD-area to increase speed of boot-time.

Now I'm curious: Is something like this possible in linux? I found a Compact Flash to IDE-adapter to boot a computer from a fast (600x, 80MB/s) flash-card. Reaction-time and small-files-access must be incredible. Best of all: It's a lot cheaper than SSD. With unionfs it should be possible to melt such a fast CF with the real harddisk. Only remaining question: How would someone move most used files to the card automatically?

Happy new year. ):P
