I wanted to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my computer, but I came across a problem. I boot it from CD, then the pink screen comes, I press a key, choose the language and then when I choose ' install ubuntu', ' try ubuntu without installing' or ' check disc for defects' screen becomes black and the '-' blinks, whatever button I press nothing happens, and it can stay like this forever.

I tried with other CDs so I don't think it's CD fault, I also tried all possible options after pressing F6 (nomodeset etc) but nothing changes... I don't have any other system on the disc, it's clear.

My computer is HP compaq dx7400 microtower.

What can I do? I'm noob when it comes to computers so please explain it in the way I can understand it.

is this your machine? it seems pretty good....
have you wait a little longer after that blinking cursor?

http://releases.ubuntu.com/precise/ try alternate CD or even try Xubuntu and later on you can install unity desktop.

Nothing....
I tried Ubuntu 12.04, Ubuntu 12.10, Xubuntu 12.10, even polish Ubuntu 11.04 'Niebiańska Nimfa'. All of it on bootable pendrive too, all the same. No difference. Always the same thing, I choose one of the options (install, test, etc) and it just goes to black screen with blinking '_' or '-'.
